Vintage 10th Mountain Division Downhill Snow Skis
c. 1958, 20th century
Wood, Metal
83”l x 3 1/8”w
Vintage Winter

An example of 10th Mountain Division ski equipment. These skis were made by Paris Mfg in South Paris, Maine for the US Army. They were painted white to act as camouflage during missions on snow-covered terrain. Many 10th Mountain Division soldiers were recruited by the U.S. National Ski Patrol after the war. Skis like these were monumental in the success of missions against the Germans in the Italian mountains. This set is in excellent condition. The seriel numbers are likely below the footplate - but since they don't have metal edges (developed in the mid-1940s), we believe them to be one of the earlier pairs made for the US. The holes at the tips were designed to be able to "pull" them as a sled if necessary.
